Adopt-A-Hwy Program

By LeAnthony Pecore

Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenberg held its’ first Spring Clean-up in combination with the Adopt-A-Highway Program on May 11, 2017.  Event Organizer and Public Relation’s Manager, LeAnthony Pecore, coordinated the event with the Department of Transportation, Ho-Chunk Gaming Employees and local Ho-Chunk Tribal members who walked a one mile stretch on both sides along Highway 29 from Highway 45 North to Killdeer Road.

The day started off with dense fog, but as it lifted, the sun popped out and temperatures rose with a balmy 65 degrees.  Within approximately two hours, a total of 10 bags of garbage were collected by 12 volunteers.  LeAnthony Pecore stated, “We can’t express enough gratitude to our participants and also to Wisconsin Department of Transportation for their great program.”

The Adopt-A-Hwy Roadside Cleanup program is coordinated by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in conjunction with area county highway departments.  The signs, safety gear and garbage bags were provided by the Shawano County Highway Department.

Please join in on the next roadside cleanup and help keep our roadsides clean. The recent event was the first of three to be completed.

We would like to give a special thanks to the tribal members that assisted us in our Roadside Cleanup, Errol “Sid” Whitewing, Pete Oknewski, and Macy Goodbear.
