The Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Administration coordinated
a spring clean-up of portions of Highway 54 between Red Iron Road and the
Andrew Blackhawk Memorial Pow-Wow Grounds near Black River Falls on April 21. Earth Day motivated this clean-up.
Earth Day raises awareness of environmental issues and
inspires an appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment. Organizers began Earth Day in response to a
massive oil spill in waters near Santa Barbara, California in 1969.
Staff and volunteers gathered behind the Tribal Office
Building for instructions.
Administration provided gloves, vests, garbage bags, tools, and
transportation.
