By LeAnthony Pecore

Each year on November 11, at 11am sharp, Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenberg honors our fallen warriors and current military veterans with a Flag Raising Ceremony for Veteran’s Day; originated as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary that marked the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning—the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.
Take a moment to hear Ho-Chunk Tribal Elder and Vietnam Combat Veteran, Mr. Paul Cloud as our keynote speaker.  He served in the US Army and was in Active service in Vietnam from 1968-1969.  Mr. Cloud has earned many medals and accolades while serving our great nation; serving in the 9th Infantry – Bravo Company, 2nd Platoon- 60 Machine Gun Squad Leader and he also worked the Eagle Flights-Search and Destroy Missions. Mr. Cloud also worked with the 9Th Infantry Sniper Team and the Alpha boats off the Mae-con Delta.
The Birnamwood Darling-Gunderson Post 341 Color guard will present a gun salute and the playing of taps. Three of our Ho-Chunk tribal veterans will raise the flags with the assistance of three of Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenberg’s Security Guards who all respectively served in the United States Military; while the Lake Delton singers sing the Ho-Chunk Nation Flag Song.  The Ho-Chunk people will always have traditional components to these type of ceremonies to pay their respect of our great warriors that come before us and the veterans that our protecting our nation in present time.
