Ho-Chunk Nation Appreciation Night with the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings

By Lynette LeGarde

The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings held the Ho-Chunk Nation Appreciation Night on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the South Wood County Recreation Center in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.  Ho-Chunk Nation Vice President, Darren Brinegar, completed the ceremonial puck drop at the game against the Steele County Blades.  The Riverkings won by a score of 7-1.
The Ho-Chunk Nation is starting a two year alternate jersey sponsorship with the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings this year.  All of Ho-Chunk Youth will gain free admission to all of the Riverkings home games. Ho-Chunk Nation tribal members will get a reduced rate for admission. The Riverkings will be mentoring Ho-Chunk youth during the season.  Ho-Chunk Nation Vice President Brinegar stated, “The Ho-Chunk Nation sponsorship with the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings was initiated by the District 3 community members.  It is nice when the community gets involved to create partnerships with local organizations.  It seems to mean more when the community members get involved.  They take more pride and ownership with the sponsorships.”
Marty Quarters, General Manager and Head Coach of the Riverkings voiced, "Building hockey up and down the river takes the support of the whole community. Thank you Ho-Chunk Nation for the generous sponsorship of our green Riverkings game jerseys, and special thanks to Ho-Chunk Nation representative, Darren Brinegar for participating in our ceremonial drop the puck on a fun and successful Ho-Chunk appreciation night."
