The Ho-Chunk Nation celebrated Veterans Day this week with
ceremonies that honored tribal members who have served in the U.S. Armed
Forces. The event brought together Veterans, families, and community members to
recognize the courage, sacrifice, and enduring spirit of Native warriors.
Across Indian Country, Veterans Day carries deep meaning.
Native people have served in every major U.S. conflict, often at higher rates
than any other group. The Nation’s celebrations included Ho-Chunk color guards,
the sound of the drum echoing, and songs dedicated to Veterans.
While Native Veterans continue to face challenges such as
limited healthcare access and higher rates of post-traumatic stress, ceremonies
like these remind the community of their resilience and unity.
