The Ho-Chunk Nation is interested in part of the former
county farm in West Salem, as La Crosse County leaders look at different ideas
for how the land could be used.
At a County Board meeting on Monday, Ho-Chunk
representatives joined local officials and community members to discuss several
proposals for the 111-acre property.
One of them comes from the Country Boom music festival,
which wants to buy 85 acres to build a concert venue and around 300 homes.
The Ho-Chunk Nation and the West Salem School District have
also shared interest in using part of the land. The Ho-Chunk Nation has not
shared full details yet, but the county is expected to review all ideas this
week.
Some board members are concerned about how concerts might
affect nearby places like the Lakeview nursing home. A county committee will
meet later to decide what happens next and whether to hold public hearings.
