Wisconsin Native Vote will host a powwow in Crandon and an Indigenous fashion show in Milwaukee this October to encourage Native voters to participate in the Nov. 3 election.

     The first event, Pow Wow the Vote, will take place Saturday, Oct. 3, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Forest County Potawatomi Community Center, 5471 The Place Where Everyone Comes To Play Road, in Crandon.

     Organizers say attendees can register to vote, find their polling locations and speak with Wisconsin Native Vote staff. Partner organizations and vendors will also have tables.

     Hay Creek of Lac Courte Oreilles will serve as host drum, RedNationBoyz of Milwaukee as co-host drum and Fire Nation of Forest County Potawatomi as hometown drum. The arena director will be Shane Webster of Oneida Nation. Joseph Rainey of Lac du Flambeau and Sarah Gouge of Forest County Potawatomi will serve as head dancers, and Charles Connors of Bad River will serve as head veteran.

     Later in the month, Native Vote: Fashion in Action will bring six Wisconsin-based Native designers and 60 models to Marquette University in Milwaukee.

     The show is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Monaghan Memorial Ballroom on the third floor of the Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.

     Each designer will create original outfits, including one garment addressing voting or the responsibility of passing on its importance.

     Attendees can also speak with Wisconsin Native Vote staff about their ballot, polling location and other election information. Wisconsin Native Vote is hosting the show with Jennifer Benally of Shinymoon Creations and Marquette University.
